The 2005 Subaru Impreza was the final United States model year for the WRX's 227 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged EJ205; the 2006 WRX switched to a 2.5-liter turbo. The WRX STI continued at 300 horsepower and received a quicker steering ratio for 2005. The Impreza wagon also served as the basis for the Saab 9-2X, a rebadged variant Subaru built in Japan for the 2005 and 2006 model years.
