The 1990 Toyota 4Runner launched the second generation with a full steel body and, for the first time, a four-door option. The 116 hp 22R-E four and 150 hp 3.0L 3VZ-E V6 carried over, but the rear leaf springs gave way to a coil-sprung solid rear axle that takes a lift with simple spring swaps. Torsion-bar IFS continued up front.
