A tool was made to release the mirror's catch from the glass [url=https://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Rear-View-Mirror-Bracket-p/a19393.htm]button[/url], but it's not necessary. Simply insert a common pocket screwdriver into the offcenter notch in the bottom of the mirror base, and push it up against the spring catch. A tool was made to release the mirror's catch from the glass button, but it's not necessary. Simply insert a common pocket screwdriver into the offcenter notch in the bottom of the mirror base, and push it up against the spring catch. As the catch is pushed forward, it comes away from the button, allowing the mirror to slide up & off the button.
