TSB 87-03-17 POWER WINDOW - TAILGATE SWITCH BINDS IN THE "UP" POSITION VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 11/03/86
LIGHT TRUCK 1987 BRONCO
ISSUE: The tailgate power window switch may bind in the "UP" position causing the power window motor to cycle on and off. This may be caused by the tailgate power window switch finish panel mounting bosses being too short or damaged.
ACTION: To correct this, install a new design finish panel and tailgate power window switch using the following service procedure.
1. Remove the headlamp knob, wiper/wash knob and finish panel from instrument panel (snaps out). 2. Disconnect the connector from the tailgate power window switch and remove switch. 3. If mounting bosses on finish panel are damaged, obtain a new tailgate power window switch and finish panel. If mounting bosses are not damaged, obtain a new tailgate power window switch only. 4. Install the new tailgate power window switch in the proper position on finish panel and check for a gap between the mounting bosses and the mounting "ears" on the switch. If no gap exists, install the (2) switch mounting screws and reinstall the finish panel. 5. If a gap exists between the mounting bosses and the tailgate power window switch, install a flat washer (44719-S8 ) between the mounting bosses and switch before installing the (2) attaching screws. 6. Check operation of the tailgate power window switch. Make sure system operates properly and binding is corrected.
