Just a comparison of the wheel bearing adjusting nut spanners for these axles. It suggests the differences in their bearings, spindles, & axleshafts. .

The spindles have been off before, but their bearings & seals are still OK, so I didn't change them then or now. But I did tape them off & then sandblast the rusty areas of the spindle, polish the seal surfaces, paint what had been rusty, and painted the pilots (that commonly seize in the steering knuckles, resulting in the chisel marks) with graphite-bearing paint ( EZSlide). Some of the u-joints that had seemed OK the first time I checked them were almost as bad as the one I knew needed replacement. Many of the C-clips were rusted in-place & broke, and some of the u-joint caps were rust-seized. IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.
Before removal or disassembly, all the driveshaft sections & flanges were cleaned & marked for proper alignment during assembly. While disassembled, they were sandblasted & painted.

To make future service easier, I added a rear drain plug to the front chunk. IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.

Another mod I always make is swapping the PITA E-ring to a fabricated snap ring, like modern CV shafts use. The shaft is still positively retained in the chunk, but it can be pried out without breaking the chunk off the axle beam. I bent the snap ring from an old D-cell battery spring. During this process, I also swapped the flexplate & trans pump seal. IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.

Energy doesn't list a pivot bushing for Dana 50IFSs, but the bushing for a D44IFS Energy 4.3133G fits perfectly. IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.

It looks almost like I haven't done anything, but the drain plug is a subtle hint. IF THE IMAGE IS TOO SMALL, click it.
