Buick Regal

1979 Buick Regal Specs & Photos

The 1979 Buick Regal was a second-generation, rear-wheel-drive coupe on the downsized GM A-body (later reclassified G-body) platform introduced for 1978, offered only as a two-door in base, Sport Coupe, and Limited trims. The base engine was the 231 cubic inch (3.8L) Buick V6 at about 115 net horsepower, with a turbocharged version of that 3.8L V6 in the Sport Coupe rated at 170 hp and 265 lb-ft. Optional V8s included the 301 cubic inch (4.9L) Pontiac and the 305 cubic inch (5.0L) Chevrolet. Three-speed and four-speed manuals were offered with the V6, while the V8 cars used the Turbo-Hydramatic automatic. This was a carryover year within the 1978-1987 generation.
