The 1998 Buick Regal was a carryover year in the fourth-generation, front-wheel-drive W-body run that began in 1997, sold only as a four-door sedan in LS and GS trims. The LS used the naturally aspirated 3800 Series II V6 (231 cubic inch, 3.8L, L36) at 200 horsepower, and the GS used the supercharged version (L67) rated at 240 hp and 280 lb-ft, both with a 4T65-E four-speed automatic. Changes from 1997 were minor, keeping the same powertrains and body style.
