The 1982 Ford Escort was the second model year of the front-wheel-drive US Escort introduced on the Erika platform for 1981. Ford added a four-door hatchback alongside the existing three-door hatchback and wagon, and the sporty Escort SS was renamed Escort GT in a running change during the year. The base 1.6L CVH four was rated 69 hp (net), with the SS/GT version at 80 hp (net).
