The 1987 Ford Escort simplified its trim lineup to Pony, GL, and GT while carrying over the 1.9L CVH engines. It was the final model year for the low-selling Mazda-sourced diesel option and the last year the Escort was built in Canada. The Mercury Lynx twin was also retired after 1987, replaced by the Tracer.
