The 1986 Ford Escort was the first full model year for the aerodynamic front end and 1.9L CVH four introduced with the mid-1985 refresh, rated 86 hp (net) in standard form and 108 hp (net) in the GT. The Mazda-sourced 2.0L diesel remained available in five-door hatchbacks. Like all 1986 US cars, the Escort added a federally required center high-mounted stop lamp.
