The 2001 Ford Ranger modernized its engines: the 2.3 Duratec dual-overhead-cam four, rated about 143 horsepower, replaced the 2.5, and the SOHC 4.0 Cologne V6 shared with the Explorer, rated up to 207 horsepower, replaced the pushrod 4.0. The 3.0 Vulcan V6 continued. The car-like Edge trim debuted for 2001.
