The 1984 GMC Jimmy name covered two different vehicles sold side by side. The full-size Jimmy, GMC's version of the Chevrolet K5 Blazer on the 1973-1991 GM full-size truck platform, continued as a two-door SUV with a removable rear top and V8 power in rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. Alongside it, the compact S-15 Jimmy, introduced for 1983 and sharing the S-platform with the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, was offered as a two-door with a 2.8L (173 cu in) V6. Both lines were sold in 1984, the S-15 as the smaller entry.
