The 1999 Mazda Miata opened the NB generation in the United States after the skipped 1998 model year, trading the pop-up headlights for fixed lamps, stiffening the body shell, and replacing the plastic rear window with glass and a defroster. The 1.8-liter four rose to 140 horsepower and 119 lb-ft. A 10th Anniversary Edition in Sapphire Blue Mica introduced the Miata's first 6-speed manual, with 7,500 built worldwide.
