A tool was made to release the mirror's catch from the glass [url=https://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Rear-View-Mirror-Bracket-p/a19393.htm]button[/url], but it's not necessary. Simply insert a common pocket screwdriver into the offcenter notch in the bottom of the mirror base, and push it up against the spring catch.
