This is the best tool for this job: a Snap-On ball joint press (BJP1), several of its cups (IIRC, I used numbers 1, 6, 8, & 11), a few deepwell sockets, a wheel bearing adjusting spanner, and a 1/2" ratchet with a REALLY-long handle.  The jack stands keep the spring from twisting nearly as much.
