The 1999 Ford Crown Victoria added the separate "Police Interceptor" name and trunk badge to the P71 fleet car, formalizing the police variant. The civilian 4.6L SOHC modular V8 made 200 horsepower with single exhaust and 215 horsepower with the dual-exhaust high-output tune, paired with the 4R70W four-speed automatic on the body-on-frame Panther platform with the 1998 Watt's-linkage rear suspension.
