Article No. 84-12-22 HEATER - DEBRIS (LEAVES) DISCHARGE THROUGH REGISTERS
LIGHT TRUCKS: 1975-84 ECONOLINE AND F-SERIES
JUNE 6, 1984

Incidents of leaves entering the cowl area through the cowl grille and passing into the heater system may be serviced as follows:
1) Procure locally: (1) hardware cloth with 1/8" squares 8x48" long to fabricate the grille screens and (2) 1 oz. of two-part epoxy.
2) Remove the cowl grille.
3) Cut the hardware cloth to size. Take care to overlap the edges of the grille opening to prevent leaf entry into the cowl. Make sure the orientation of the screen mesh is the same as the cowl grille.
4) Color coat the screen to match the body color.
5) Cut any small electric wires into 4" lengths or use plastic bag ties (approximately 30) to be used to position the screens securely, Place the screen on the underside of the cowl grille, making sure that the orientation of the screen mesh is the same as the cowl grille, and wire the screen securely (Figure 36). Mix a small portion of the two-part epoxy and put a drop in at least 4 places on each grille bar, making sure that the screen wire is completely covered at each point of attachment.
6) Reinstall the cowl grille.
