I picked up a swivel eye rod with a 5/16 eye and a 5/16-18 thread. I matched it to a 5/16 turnbuckle from the local hardware store. I got a short piece of 1" square tube, drilled a 5/16 hole in it, and welded it to my bracket. A 5/16 clevis pin anchors the upper end, and I drilled out the eye bolt on the lower end to 3/4, which was just large enough for that piece of round tube to slide in.

Twisting the turnbuckle adjust tension, and pulled the clevis pin lets me easy remove the belt if needed.
