The 1971 Mercury Marquis carried the concealed-headlamp full-size body introduced for 1969 into its third year, still on a 124-inch wheelbase. The 429 cu in V8 remained the Marquis engine, offered in 2-barrel and 4-barrel versions, in the last full year before the industry switched to SAE net power ratings. Marquis and Marquis Brougham sat above the Monterey in Mercury's full-size lineup.
