No 2002 Mercury Marquis exists; Mercury retired the name after 1986, and its full-size sedan remained the Grand Marquis. The cars registered under this year were owner-filed into this slug and in practice describe the 2002 Grand Marquis. That was the last model year on the pre-update Panther chassis, because for 2003 the car received a new frame, rack-and-pinion steering, and a revised suspension.
