The 1983 Mercury Marquis moved the nameplate to the midsize Fox platform, sharing a 105.6-inch wheelbase with the new Ford LTD, while the full-size Panther car became the Grand Marquis. Base power was a 2.3L overhead-cam four, with a 3.8L Essex V6 optional. The sedan and wagon bodies took over the slots vacated when the Cougar line dropped its sedans and wagons for 1983.
