The 1978 Datsun 810 is the direct ancestor of the Nissan Maxima, which is why it files under the Maxima registry here. US 810s of this year included a rear-wheel-drive sedan and wagon powered by the L24 2.4-liter overhead-cam inline six, the same engine family as the 240Z. The Maxima name did not appear until 1981, when Nissan applied it to the top trim of the redesigned 810.
