The 2004 Nissan Maxima opened the sixth generation and moved production to Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee plant, making it the first US-built Maxima. The VQ35DE 3.5-liter V6 grew to 265 horsepower, and the lineup was simplified to SE and SL trims. An available SkyView roof placed a fixed glass panel over the front seats, and the SE kept an available 6-speed manual.
