The 1973 Pontiac Firebird introduced the Super Duty 455, rated 290 hp net in production trim after an initial 310 hp rating tied to a pre production camshaft. Pontiac built 252 Super Duty Trans Ams and 43 Super Duty Formulas for the year. The large hood bird decal also appeared for the first time in 1973.
