The 1977 Pontiac Firebird was restyled around four rectangular headlamps. The W72 T/A 6.6 400 was rated 200 hp net, the standard 400 made 180 hp net, and California and high altitude cars received an Oldsmobile 403. The black and gold Special Edition Trans Am became a fixture after Smokey and the Bandit reached theaters in May 1977.
