The 1993 Ford Probe launched the second generation, a restyled front-wheel-drive coupe on the Mazda GE platform with fixed headlamps. The base car used the Mazda FS 2.0-liter four rated at 118 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque, and the GT used the new Mazda KL 2.5-liter V6 rated at 164 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque, replacing the first generation's turbocharged four. The 1993 Probe was named Motor Trend Car of the Year and was built at Flat Rock, Michigan alongside the Mazda MX-6.
