The 1995 Volkswagen Passat brought the B4 generation to the United States, a deep revision of the B3 that replaced the grille-less nose used since 1990 with a conventional grille and made dual front airbags standard. GLS models used a 2.0-liter 8-valve four rated at 115 horsepower, while the GLX carried the 2.8-liter narrow-angle VR6 rated at 172 horsepower. Both sedan and wagon body styles were offered.
