The 2015 Volkswagen Passat, built at Volkswagen's Chattanooga, Tennessee plant on the North American NMS platform, replaced its carryover diesel with the new EA288 2.0-liter TDI rated at 150 horsepower and 236 lb-ft, a 10 horsepower gain over the prior unit. Gasoline models continued with the 170 horsepower 1.8T and the 280 horsepower 3.6-liter VR6. In September 2015 Volkswagen halted TDI sales in the United States after the EPA issued a notice of violation over diesel emissions software.
