The 2004 Volkswagen Passat returned diesel power to the lineup for the first time since 1997 with a 2.0-liter pump-injection TDI rated at 134 horsepower and 247 lb-ft, offered in both sedan and wagon. The 2004 model year was also the last for the 4.0-liter W8, leaving the 170 horsepower 1.8T and 190 horsepower V6 as the gasoline choices going forward.
