The 1970 Chevrolet Nova continued the third-generation X-body with the SS 396 atop the line, and during 1970 the Mark IV big-block was bored to 402 cubic inches while keeping SS 396 badging. The solid-lifter L78 remained rated 375 horsepower gross, and 1970 was its final year of availability. Lesser engines included the 250 six and 307 and 350 V8s.
