The 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD debuted as the first true heavy-duty pickup of the GMT800 era, sold alongside the carryover light-duty Silverado 2500. Gasoline engines were the 6.0-liter Vortec V8 at 300 horsepower and the new 8.1-liter Vortec big-block at 340 horsepower and 455 pound-feet. Chevrolet also released the 6.6-liter Duramax LB7 turbodiesel, built by the DMAX joint venture with Isuzu in Moraine, Ohio and rated at 300 horsepower and 520 pound-feet through the Allison 1000 five-speed automatic. A crew cab joined the regular and extended body styles.
