Automotive Relay Wiring Diagram - 30, 85, 86, 87, 87A Terminal Functions

This is a simple hand-drawn schematic explaining the standard terminal layout and function of a common automotive relay with both normally-open (NO) and normally-closed (NC) output contacts. The diagram shows a rectangular relay body with terminals 85 and 86 on top and terminals 30, 87, and 87A on the bottom. Terminals 85 and 86 are labeled as the relay coil terminals: 85 receives the hot (switched) wire from a switch, and 86 goes to ground (GRD-). A note states that terminals 85 and 86 can be swapped, since the coil is not polarity sensitive in this depiction. Terminals 30, 87, and 87A are the relay output terminals: terminal 30 receives power from the battery positive through a fuse, terminal 87 is the normally-open (NO) contact that goes to the load positive, and terminal 87A is the normally-closed (NC) contact.
