1997 Mercury Cougar PATS Transceiver Module Wiring Diagram - Fuse 12, C209
Wiring diagram for the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver module showing TX/RX inputs and power circuits.
This document is a wiring diagram for the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Transceiver Module. Power is supplied on a circuit that is hot in START or RUN, fed through fuse 12 (15A) in the Central Junction Box (referenced to page 13-13), then through a 16-gauge red/light green (RD/LG) wire via splice S259 to pin 2 (START OR RUN input, 12V in start or run) of the PATS transceiver module at connector C209. The transceiver communicates with the instrument cluster (referenced to page 63-3) via two circuits: circuit 1215 white/light green (WH/LG) to pin 4 (TX INPUT) and circuit 1216 gray/orange (GY/OG) to pin 3 (RX INPUT). Ground is provided from pin 1 (0V) at connector C209 through circuit 676 pink/orange (PK/OG), via splice S210, to ground G203 (grounds referenced on page 10-8). The diagram gives searchers fuse assignment and rating, circuit numbers, wire gauges and colors, connector and splice identifiers, and cross-references to the power distribution, instrument cluster, and grounds sections of the wiring manual. It is useful for diagnosing PATS-related no-start conditions or theft-light issues by tracing power, communication, and ground circuits.

Frequently asked questions
- Which fuse powers the PATS transceiver module?
- Fuse 12, a 15A fuse in the Central Junction Box (see Power Distribution, page 13-13). The circuit is hot in START or RUN.
- What wire color feeds power to the PATS transceiver module?
- A 16-gauge RD/LG (red/light green) wire runs from fuse 12 through splice S259 to pin 2 (START OR RUN) at connector C209, carrying 12V in start or run.
- How does the PATS transceiver connect to the instrument cluster?
- Circuit 1215 WH/LG connects to pin 4 (TX INPUT) and circuit 1216 GY/OG connects to pin 3 (RX INPUT); the instrument cluster is shown on page 63-3.
- Where does the PATS transceiver module ground?
- Pin 1 (0V) at connector C209 runs through circuit 676 PK/OG (pink/orange), via splice S210, to ground G203 (see Grounds, page 10-8).
- What connector serves the PATS transceiver module?
- Connector C209 is shown at the module for both the power input (pin 2) and the ground output (pin 1).
