1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - With the right tools, this '97 OPS can be removed with the intake & FFM in-place. That's a 1 1/16" 3/8-drive crowfoot on a 12" extension. F… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - My real goal is the PMD (FSD) on the other (driver's) side of the Injection Pump (IP), barely visible above the pink heat-transfer gasket.… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - The plenum & intake are surprisingly easy to remove, exposing the valley. I'll move the FFM up a few inches to make filter changes easier,… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - This is the connector that has to be extended so the FSD can be remotely mounted. Extension harnesses are common, but I'd rather solder in… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - After cutting most of the short leg off a 7/64" Allen wrench, it BARELY fits. This takes patience, dexterity, patience, a flexible pickup m… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - The bottom screws can't come out with the PMD in-place, so do them first. If you can't get them, there's no need to remove the top screws.… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - Some PMDs have thermal grease, but mine has this reusable silicone pad. The paper towel keeps screws & tools from falling into the head's i… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - This is so new that I didn't want to spend the money for another one; especially considering the problems both replacements have right now.… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - After cutting these 2 wires, the harness comes out. Note the 2 brass 45° elbows installed for the OPS extension (one of which cracked & lea… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - I bought several 30' spools of 16ga wire so I could match the colors, and the colored heat-shrink is inexpensive, too. Cover the intake por… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - There's clear heat-shrink on the pink wire, and blue on the green wire. Note the staggered cuts that keep the splices from being side-by-si… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - I used 1/2" split loom, which is actually too small for 5 16ga wires. But it's on & taped up with real wiring harness tape (not electrical… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - I ran it down beside the battery, where the slack is stored (in case I want to move it somewhere else), and then it runs thru the core supp… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - I have several of these Ford ignition module heat sinks ('92-96 trucks, & some others), and it's nearly the perfect size for the FSD. I fil… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - I drilled a hole through one ATF cooler brace & used a U-nut & bolt to attach the heat sink so it will always be in the fan's airflow, even… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - It's visible thru the grille, but not as obvious as a broken-down truck on the side of the road. 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - The factory '97 OPS bore is angled just enough to intersect the intake. That's a 4"-long 1/4" pipe nipple screwed into the block. Fuel filt… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - Cover the intake ports on the heads so nothing can fall inside. I was lucky. The hardware store didn't have galvanized 1/4" 45° elbows, so… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - After test-fitting everything, I disassembled it & RED thread-locked every joint. Eventually, I'll add a strap to keep the long assembly fr… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - All the wiring still reaches. I deleted the wiring support brace behind the FFM because of interference with the inlet line. The long bolts… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - After bleeding the FFM thoroughly, it started right up & runs fine. Fuel filter is a Mann from [url=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027E… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - One last trip to the hardware store to get these 4"-long 3/8" pipe nipples, and a 1" EMT 1-hole conduit strap (flattened & drilled). The FF… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - The short bolt in the FFM is one of its originals, with a spare nut. The strap is necessary to rotate the FFM so the outlet & drain nipples… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - Everything fits under/behind the cover, but I can now easily bleed the FFM or change the filter with the cover in-place. Fuel filter is a M… 1997 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - After idling for ~15min in ~100° weather, the hottest spot I can find is 121°F; after a 30-min drive with A/C, I found one at 123.
