The 1988 Chevrolet C2500 and K2500 launched the GMT400 generation, introduced in April 1987 to replace a Square Body design dating to 1973. Both drivelines used independent front suspension, with torsion bars on four-wheel-drive K trucks, and the cab lineup added an extended cab while crew cabs continued on the old R/V platform. Fuel-injected engines included the 5.7-liter TBI V8 rated at 210 net horsepower, the 7.4-liter 454 at 230 horsepower, and the 6.2-liter diesel. Trim levels were Cheyenne, Scottsdale, and Silverado.
