The 1984 Ford Ranger carried the first-generation compact pickup with the 2.0 and 2.3 Lima four-cylinders and the 2.8 Cologne V6, plus the early diesel options. The Ranger platform also gave rise to the Bronco II compact SUV for 1984, built on a shortened Ranger chassis. The 1984 Ranger 4x4 kept the Twin-Traction-Beam front suspension on a Dana 28 front axle.
