The 1988 Ford Ranger continued the first-generation compact pickup with its fuel-injected engines: the 2.0 and 2.3 Lima four-cylinders, the 2.9 Cologne V6, and the 3.0 Vulcan V6. The 1988 Ranger 4x4 used the Twin-Traction-Beam independent front suspension on a Dana 28 front axle.
