The 1991 Ford Ranger continued the first-generation compact pickup with its full lineup: the 2.3 Lima four-cylinder, the 2.9 Cologne V6, the 3.0 Vulcan V6, and the 4.0 Cologne V6. The 1991 Ranger 4x4 used the Twin-Traction-Beam front suspension on a Dana 35 front axle. The Ranger-derived Ford Explorer also arrived for 1991.
