The 1986 Ford Ranger replaced the 2.8 Cologne V6 with the larger 2.9 Cologne V6 and added the domestic 3.0 Vulcan V6 to the first-generation lineup. The 2.0 and 2.3 Lima four-cylinders continued as the base engines. The 1986 Ranger 4x4 used the Twin-Traction-Beam independent front suspension on a Dana 28 front axle.
