Soviet BTR APC Interior Data Plates - Gearbox, PTO, Winch & Water-Jet Controls
Riveted metal instruction plate in Russian with transfer-case shift-position diagrams and winch operating notes.
This photograph shows Russian-language instruction/data plates mounted inside a Soviet-era amphibious armored personnel carrier (BTR type, indicated by the words 'бронетранспортеру' — armored personnel carrier — and 'водомет' — water-jet propulsion). The upper plate, titled 'Position of the gearbox and power take-off shift levers,' diagrams lever positions for: the transfer case (direct drive / neutral / demultiplier low-range), front axle engagement (engaged/disengaged), power take-off to the rollers (engaged/disengaged), the 4-speed-plus-reverse gearbox H-pattern (I–IV plus reverse), the winch (on/off), and the water-jet drive (reverse / neutral / forward). It warns to disengage the front axle on dry hard roads and to engage the demultiplier only after engaging the front axle. The middle plate, 'Winch Control,' explains that self-recovery with the winch requires engaging the power take-off, the reduction (low) gear, and first gear; winch reverse is achieved via reverse gear, and for pulling loads toward the vehicle the transfer-case lever goes to neutral. A partially glare-obscured lower plate covers a drain valve ('open/closed — turn the handle fully in both directions'), and a toggle switch at right is labeled 'ЖАЛЮЗИ' (louvers) 'ОТКРЫТО/ЗАКРЫТО' (open/closed). This is not a Ford Bronco document.

Frequently asked questions
- What do these Russian data plates describe?
- They show shift-lever positions for the transfer case, front axle, power take-off, gearbox H-pattern (I–IV plus reverse), winch, and water-jet drive, plus winch operating instructions on an armored personnel carrier.
- How is the winch used for self-recovery according to the plate?
- 1) Engage the power take-off, 2) engage the reduction (low) gear, 3) engage first gear in the gearbox. Winch reverse is done by selecting reverse gear; to pull loads toward the vehicle, put the transfer-case lever in neutral.
- When should the front axle be disengaged?
- The plate says to disengage the front axle when driving on dry, hard roads, and to engage the demultiplier (low range) only after engaging the front axle.
- What positions does the water-jet (водомет) lever have?
- Three positions: reverse (задний ход), neutral (нейтраль), and forward (передн. ход).
- What does the small switch labeled 'ЖАЛЮЗИ' control?
- It is a louver control with two marked positions: ОТКРЫТО (open) and ЗАКРЫТО (closed).
