Ford E4OD Transmission Shift Speed Chart - Light & Wide-Open Throttle MPH

This document is a reference table titled "E4OD Applications Shift Speeds — Approximate* MPH," showing the approximate vehicle speeds (in MPH) at which the Ford E4OD automatic transmission shifts between gears. The table is divided into two throttle conditions: Light Throttle and Wide-Open Throttle. For each condition, it lists the selector range ((D) or D), the gear shift (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1), and the corresponding approximate vehicle speed range. Under light throttle, upshifts occur at low speeds (e.g., 1-2 at 8-15 mph, 2-3 at 16-24 mph, 3-4 at 32-49 mph), while at wide-open throttle shifts occur much later (e.g., 1-2 at 20-43 mph, 2-3 at 37-74 mph, 3-4 at 54-110 mph). Downshift speeds (4-3, 3-2, 2-1) are also listed for both conditions. A partially cut-off footnote states that nominal shift speed at sea level is shown and that actual speeds depend on tire brand, size and axle ratio, referencing Special Specification Bulletin FPS-12180-9 (remainder cut off). This chart is useful for diagnosing whether an E4OD transmission is shifting at the correct road speeds.
