Pinion Angle Setting Chart - 4-Link & Ladder-Bar Driveline Angle Diagram

This document is an illustrated reference chart for setting driveline pinion angle. At the top, two drawings show where to place a protractor (angle finder): on the transmission tailshaft seal to measure the engine/transmission angle, and on the rear axle pinion flange to measure the pinion angle. Below are two tables of example scenarios, one for 4-link rear suspensions and one for ladder-bar suspensions. Each table has three columns: the measured engine/trans angle (0°, 2° down, or 2° up), the pinion setting if the pinion were set parallel to the engine/trans line, and the proper recommended pinion angle setting. For a 4-link, the chart recommends 1° down when the engine/trans is at 0°, 1° up when the engine/trans points 2° down, and 3° down when the engine/trans points 2° up. For a ladder-bar setup, the recommendations are 2°–3° down at 0° engine/trans angle, 0°–1° up when the engine/trans is 2° down, and 4°–5° down when the engine/trans is 2° up. Each cell includes a small illustration of the transmission or pinion with a protractor and directional arrows. The chart lets a reader determine correct pinion angle relative to the measured engine/transmission angle for either suspension type.
