The 1984 Ford LTD added the LX, a factory sport sedan that paired the 5.0 liter V8 rated 165 horsepower with police-package handling hardware, a floor-shifted automatic overdrive, and front bucket seats with a center console. The LX was sold only in 1984 and 1985. Volume models continued with the 2.3 liter four and the 3.8 liter Essex V6, which gained central fuel injection.
