Check all gears for excessive wear, chips or cracks; replace as required. 2. Check shaft for bending, crack, wear or worn spline; if necessary, replace. Baulk ring 1. Replace baulk ring if found to be deformed, cracked or otherwise damaged excessively. sMTsH 2. Place baulk ring in position on gauge cone. While holding baulk ring against gear as far as it will go, measure gap between baulk ring and outer gear. if the clearance is smaller than the wear limit, discard baulk ring.
