The 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer used the original square-body front styling that ran from 1973 through 1980. Four-wheel-drive trucks paired GM's 10-bolt front axle with the gear-driven NP205 behind manual transmissions or the chain-driven full-time NP203 behind automatics. That year's fuel crisis hit full-size 4x4 sales across the industry and set up the lighter 1981 redesign.
