The 1988 Ford LTD did not exist as a standalone model in the United States, where the full-size Panther sedan had been sold as the LTD Crown Victoria since 1983, and the vehicles filed under this year are 5.0 liter Crown Victorias entered under the shorter name. For 1988 the LTD Crown Victoria received its one major restyle, with rounded front and rear fascias, a lower and wider grille, a reshaped decklid, and larger taillamps that wrapped into the fenders. The two-door sedan was dropped after 1987, leaving four-door sedans and wagons powered by the sequentially fuel-injected 5.0 liter V8 rated 150 horsepower.
