The 1992 Honda Civic opened the fifth generation, the chassis tuners still call the EG. VTEC spread across the US range for the first time: the VX hatchback ran the lean burn D15Z1 VTEC-E for economy, while the Si hatchback and EX sedan used the 125 hp D16Z6 SOHC VTEC. Sedan and hatchback bodies launched first, with the coupe following for 1993.
