The 2001 Honda Civic began the seventh generation, trading the double wishbone front suspension used since 1988 for MacPherson struts. US sedans and coupes moved to 1.7 liter D17 engines, the 115 hp D17A1 and the 127 hp D17A2 SOHC VTEC in EX trim. No Si was offered for 2001; the EP3 arrived the following year.
