The 1998 Honda Civic kept the EK formula intact: D16Y7 power in CX, DX, and LX trims, the lean burn D16Y5 in the HX coupe, and the 127 hp D16Y8 SOHC VTEC in the EX. Honda also added the natural gas Civic GX to the range in 1998, aimed initially at fleet buyers. The Si returned the following year.
