1996 Ford Bronco Rear Window Defroster Wiring Diagram (Page 56-1)
1996 Ford Bronco rear window defroster wiring diagram showing the switch, defrost relay, timing circuit and grid.
This document is page 56-1 of a factory-style wiring diagram covering the Rear Window Defroster circuit, labeled for a 1996 Ford Bronco. It shows power feeds from two sources: fuse 7 (15A) in the fuse panel (hot in run, page 13-3) via circuit 8 (O/Y, shared with the turn/stop/hazard lamps on page 90-1), and fuse 14 (20A) in the engine compartment fuse box (hot at all times, page 13-2) via circuit 37 (Y) and 185 (BK) through connectors C202M/C202F. The Rear Window Defrost Control module contains a momentary on/off switch, timing circuit, defrost relay, switch illumination (fed by circuit 19 LB/R from instrument illumination, page 71-1), and rear defrost indicator. When the relay is energized, 12V flows on circuit 186 (BR/LB) through connectors C205F/C205M and C418F/C418M to the rear window defrost grid at C310, grounding through C311 and circuit 57 (BK) to ground G400. The control module grounds through circuit 57 (BK), splices S205 and S200, to ground G201 (grounds referenced on page 10-9). A note explains that pressing the momentary defrost switch closes the relay contacts and starts an approximately ten-minute timing cycle powering the grid.

Frequently asked questions
- Which fuses power the rear window defroster on a 1996 Bronco?
- Two fuses are shown: fuse 7 (15A) in the fuse panel (hot in run, page 13-3) and fuse 14 (20A) in the engine compartment fuse box (hot at all times, page 13-2).
- How long does the rear defroster stay on?
- Per the diagram note, pressing the momentary defrost switch ON closes the defrost relay contacts and begins an approximately ten-minute timing cycle that applies power to the rear window defrost grid.
- What wire color and circuit feeds the rear window defrost grid?
- Circuit 186, brown/light blue (BR/LB), runs from the defrost control (12V when relay energized) through connectors C205F/C205M and C418F/C418M to the grid at C310.
- Where does the rear defrost circuit ground?
- The defrost grid grounds via circuit 57 (BK) through C311 to ground G400; the control module grounds via circuit 57 (BK) through splices S205 and S200 to ground G201. Grounds are detailed on page 10-9.
- What components are inside the rear window defrost control?
- The control contains a momentary on/off switch, a timing circuit, a defrost relay, switch illumination, and a rear defrost indicator.
